Taking to his personal Twitter account, reputed La Liga journalist Guillen Balague has given an update on a potential January transfer of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, claiming that Barcelona have no intentions of selling the goalkeeper amidst interest from Liverpool.
On ter Stegen. Barcelona have got no intention at all of getting rid of him in January.— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) January 4, 2016
The Mirror reported over the weekend that ter Stegen is a January target for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp keen to sign a new goalkeeper as a replacement for the calamitous duo of Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan.
Ter Stegen, 23, is already one of the top goalkeepers in the world, and at his young age, has the potential to become number one in the world in the future.
He has had some struggles this season, with his form deserting him, but his real issue is that he is not first-choice stopper at Camp Nou, with Claudio Bravo playing league fixtures.
Ter Stegen is the keeper used in the Champions League, and he played every game in that competition last season, but in his season and a half at Barca he has made just four La Liga appearances.
It is believed that he wants to move to increase his playing chances, but Balague has downplayed any potential exit, claiming that Barca have absolutely no intention to sell a player who can realistically become the best in the world in his position in the next decade.
Liverpool would be pulling off one of the best deals of a generation if they could sign ter Stegen, but it looks almost impossible that they will be able to complete his transfer this month.
