Leeds United eye possible deal for Anthony Stokes

HITC Sport understands that Yorkshire giants are keen on Celtic forward.

Anthony Stokes has emerged as a January transfer target for Leeds United, HITC Sports understands.

The Celtic star has been frozen out of the first-team picture at Parkhead under coach Ronny Deila, and he is desperate for first team football.

The Republic of Ireland international striker believes he could still have a future at Celtic with question marks very much raised over Deila's own future, but in the mean time he would ideally like a loan move to England to kick-start his season.

A deal with Bolton was close but their off-field issues mean a deal is unlikely to go through whilst Cardiff City have long been interested.

However, HITC Sport understands that Leeds have now moved to the front of the queue for his signature and believe the 27-year-old could do an excellent job for them – although there is other clubs from the Championship keeping tabs on his situation.
