York City boss admits he wants to sign Tottenham youngster Kenny McEvoy permanently

Could Tottenham Hotspur wave goodbye to a young winger this month?

York City manager Jackie McNamara has admitted that he would like to sign Tottenham Hotspur winger Kenny McEvoy on a permanent basis, despite the player managing only three appearances since joining on loan back in November.

McNamara was speaking to The Press about the players currently on loan at York, one of whom is 21-year-old McEvoy.

The young Irishman initially signed on at the League Two club until 2 January but it seems York have bigger plans for him if a deal can be agreed.

That remains to be seen but despite making 44 appearances for Tottenham’s under-21 side, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists in the process, he is yet to make his senior debut for the North London club and looks unlikely to do so any time soon.

When you also consider the sheer number of quality young players coming through the ranks at Tottenham right now, it seems a permanent switch elsewhere could be the best option for all concerned.

Only time will tell, but McNamara clearly rates the Tottenham youngster, and in comments published by The Press he said, “We’re hoping to make Kenny McEvoy’s move permanent.

“He’s been out of the team for the last two or three games because of the form of others, but we changed things around in the second half (at Yeovil) and he brought an injection of pace.

“I think that’s crucial at this level, and every time he gets on the ball, he puts a good cross into the box as well.”

With the January transfer window now open McEvoy could yet be set for a new adventure, waving goodbye to White Hart Lane for good.
