Report: Arsenal open talks over move for £42m striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to a report in The Sun, Arsenal have sent an intermediary to initiate talks with Borussia Dortmund over the possibility of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners kicked off 2016 with a hard-fought victory over Newcastle United, consolidating their place at the top of the Premier League table following Leicester City's draw against Bournemouth.

Arsene Wenger’s side may not have a better chance to win the title than this season, and an extra addition or two could ultimately make all the difference come the end of the campaign.

Many supporters have cried out for more fire-power upfront, and if reports in The Sun are true, then their calls could well be answered as the club reportedly initiate talks for Aubameyang over a £42million move.

“Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a shock £42million move for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this month. An intermediary is now talking to the Bundesliga club on the Gunners’ behalf,” the report reads.

The talented striker has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 18 goals in just 17 league appearances as Dortmund look to challenge Bayern Munich for the title.

The 26-year-old can play in a range of forward positions though is at his best playing as a centre-forward, an area which is currently occupied by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

Aubameyang would offer the North London outfit a different threat upfront, and considering his age there could still be plenty more to come from the free-scoring goal machine.
