Report: Marko Grujic snubbed two more lucrative offers, to join Liverpool

Two clubs made late attempts to beat Liverpool to the Marko Grujic deal.

Marko Grujic will be unveiled as a Liverpool player this week, and fans should be impressed that the Reds are a club he had his heart set on.

The Liverpool Echo report that Grujic snubbed late interest from CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg, who both offered his club Red Star Belgrade more money for his services.

Grujic's commitment is a good sign for Liverpool, although it remains possible he will be loaned back to his side for the rest of the season.

He will become Jurgen Klopp's first signing since becoming Liverpool manager, and could become a great one, becoming an under-20 FIFA World Cup winner with Serbia last summer.

Grujic is just 18, and even if he is loaned out, his acquisition is a good statement of intent for the Reds early on in the transfer window.

Liverpool lost 2-0 against West Ham at the weekend, falling three points behind rivals Manchester United, with who they had recently drawn level. Both sides remain outside the Premier League's top four places.
