Everton will take on Tottenham at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Spurs will head into the game as favourites, as they are in better form and have better players.
However, Merson believes that the Toffees will pick up all three points from the encounter courtesy of a 3-2 win.
“This will be a brilliant game,” the former England international has predicted on Skysports.com. “I watched Everton play Leicester and get beat, watched them play Stoke and get beat.
“They conceded seven goals in those games, shipping goals, but I think they'll win this one. I haven't been going against Tottenham recently, but I think Everton will come out on top in a high-scoring encounter.”
Former Scotland international forward Charlie Nicholas, who played for Arsenal and Celtic among other clubs, has also gone for a victory for Everton, backing the Merseyside outfit to register a 2-1 win.
“Spurs are going well but they are starting to talk up their own title ambitions and that could backfire,” Nicholas predicted on Skysports.com. “Top four would be a great achievement for Tottenham. I'm going to go for Everton though, if they get up a head of steam early on I think Tottenham may struggle.”
Tottenham will fancy their chances against Everton, but Roberto Martinez’s side do have the quality to defeat the North London outfit.
Everton are superb going forward, and an early goal at Goodison Park for them could make it tough for Spurs.
However, defensively the Toffees are vulnerable and have left much to be desired, and Tottenham will be determined to exploit this weakness.
