Rangers are playing in the Scottish Championship at the moment, while Celtic are in the Premiership.
The Gers are going strong in the second tier of Scottish football and are course to gaining promotion to the top flight at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, the Bhoys are at the top of the Premiership table and are likely to retain the league title.
Former Celtic striker Sutton believes that Rangers will not be able to push the Hoops for the title next season if they get promoted.
“On the domestic front, I can’t see anything troubling Celtic even if they fail to push on,” the former Chelsea man has written in The Daily Mail.
“If Rangers go on to secure promotion, I don’t think they will pose enough of a challenge in their first season back in the top flight.
“And that will be a relief for the Parkhead board as it hasn’t been scintillating on the home front under Deila.”
Celtic have the best squad in Scotland and will be favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title next season.
Rangers are likely to strengthen in the summer transfer window if they get promoted, but that is still going to keep them second favourites (at best) for the league title.
