West Ham United striker Andy Carroll took to Twitter after his side's 2-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday - and celebrated by drinking out of a Newcastle United mug!

Carroll, 26, hit his second goal in as many games by scoring West Ham's second against his former club Liverpool, handing the Hammers a 2-0 win.

The giant striker scored a typically powerful header, using his height to beat the Liverpool defence and give Slaven Bilic a second straight victory.

After the game, Carroll took to Twitter to post a photo on Instagram (as seen above), which showed him drinking from a Newcastle United mug, with the tagline 'Geordie Hammer'.

Born-and-bred in Gateshead, Carroll was a boyhood Newcastle fan and became a hero with the Magpies before leaving for Liverpool in January 2011.

Recent speculation from The Times suggested that Newcastle were looking to re-sign Carroll and offer him a return to the North East, but West Ham's alleged £18m asking price had scared the Magpies off.

However, after that Instagram post, a host of Newcastle fans took to Twitter in order to tell Carroll to make a return to St. James' Park, with many supporters believing that he can be a hero at Newcastle again, despite his controversial exit five years ago.

Here are some of the reactions from Newcastle fans on Twitter after Carroll's Instagram post on Saturday evening...

Should Carroll eventually re-sign for Newcastle?
