According to a report by Gianluca di Marzio, Watford have contacted Lazio over the possibility of signing impressive forward Keita Balde Diao in the January transfer window.
Watford owners, the Pozzos, aren’t intent on resting on their laurels, however, as they look to strengthen the squad further in the hope of landing a potential European spot come the end of the campaign.
As per the latest reports in Italy, one target they have made contact for is Lazio’s Keita, as the newly promoted club seek to bolster their attacking options.
"Watford have initiated contacts with Lazio for Keita Balde Diao. His passport issue should be resolved soon as he is to receive a Spanish passport. Watford have made their move," Di Marzio’s report states.
Keita was born in Catalonia, Spain, to Senegalese parents and came through Barcelona’s youth academy before joining Lazio in the summer of 2011.
However, a move to England never materialised partly due to the situation surrounding his nationality despite reports of a bid submitted by Villa last summer, according to Football Italia.
Keita is predominantly a forward and can play in a range of attacking positions. He has featured 12 times in Serie A for Lazio this term, scoring once and adding a further two assists.
