The 29-year-old shone against the Gunners despite another defeat for Newcastle at the Emirates.
He was pivotal when Newcastle United drew 4-4 after going 4-0 down against the Gunners. And he was excellent at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Many Newcastle fans wondered how their side didn't beat Arsenal, with the Premier League leaders registering a narrow 1-0 win. Petr Cech was man of the match and it could have been very different indeed for the Magpies had they taken their chances - a familiar story.
But, in terms of their performance, Newcastle were encouraging and, away from the final third, very good in north London.
That stemmed from central midfield, where Tiote had replaced the injured Vurnon Anita. Anita and Jack Colback have been the recipients of heavy criticism from supporters recently. But, with Tiote in the side, both he and Colback performed brilliantly.
Could that be a partnership Steve McClaren now turns to more regularly? Tiote, of course, has delivered some truly abject displays over the past few months and fans will hope this wasn't just a flash in the pan.
Here's how the Newcastle faithful reacted on Twitter as the 29-year-old shocked quite a few against Arsenal!
Lee Ryder give Tiote a 6? He must have been watching a different game to me. Thought Tiote was excellent today and I normally hate him #Nufc— Deka Petrie (@DekaD7) January 2, 2016

I was writing him off before KO but thought Tiote brought so much today. Nice to see some steel back in the middle #NUFC— Emma Thompson (@Jowse) January 2, 2016
Didn't expect to say this but thought Tiote was excellent today #nufc— Greg Paterson (@GP) January 2, 2016
With Tiote in the middle and Gini as number 10, #nufc looked more organized, sharper, faster and dangerous with the ball. That's a start.— Rafael Ferreira (@RafaelFerrei90) January 2, 2016
