Report: Newcastle United could make shock move for Hull City captain Michael Dawson

Hull City KC Stadium

The former England international is being linked with a return to the Premier League.

The Transfer Window officially opened today and Newcastle United will be looking to bring in some fresh faces to help them in their relegation battle.

That is likely to involve the recruitment of new defenders and one interesting name has been mentioned as a potential target today.

It is reported by The Telegraph that Newcastle are considering making a shock move for Hull City defender Michael Dawson.

The former Tottenham man is the club captain at Hull and is currently out of action with a knee problem.

Newcastle however will know the talent Dawson possesses and will be keen to bring him in should a deal be struck between the two clubs.

Newcastle's defence could certainly use some strengthening. Chancel Mbemba has been impressive in parts this season but there is no ignoring the inconsistency of Fabricio Coloccini.

Dawson is a player with plenty of Premier League experience who could bring plenty to the current back-line.

Dawson, who is 32-years-old, would not need to up sticks to make the move considering his current proximity to Tyneside and it would be a shrewd piece of business from Newcastle United.
