The Gunners will take on Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium in North London on Saturday afternoon, and the former Arsenal attacker has backed the home team to win the Premier League encounter 3-0.
“I can't see anything but an easy Arsenal win here,” Merson has predicted on Skysports.com. “It was a bad result for Newcastle at West Brom, although I did feel for goalkeeper Karl Darlow as he had done well up to the goal.”
“I think it will be a walk in the park for the Gunners, and Newcastle will probably look at this as damage limitation, making sure they do not get a good beating,” added the former England international.
Former Newcastle winger John Barnes has also backed Arsenal to win the match, predicting that they will defeat Newcastle 3-1.
“Newcastle did well against both Liverpool and Spurs but have dipped off lately, while Arsenal are unpredictable, as was shown in the 4-0 disaster at Southampton,” Barners has predicted on Titanbet.co.uk.
“However, the Gunners will, in my opinion, win comfortably here. Goalscorers – Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Aleksandar Mitrovic.”
Arsenal will be heavy favourites to win the match, as they are in better form and have better players.
The Gunners, who also have home advantage, returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Monday when they got the better of Bournemouth 2-0 at the Emirates.
Newcastle have done well against the top teams in the Premier League this season, and they could earn a point at the Emirates if they score an early goal.
The chances of that happening are not much, but Steve McClaren’s side will certainly do their best to make it hard for Arsenal.
