Aston Villa legend Paul McGrath pleads for a new owner at Villa Park

Villa Park

The Irishman wants change at his beloved club.

If Aston Villa didn't look like they were down already before today, they certainly do now.

The 3-1 defeat at Sunderland appears to have put the nail in the coffin of Villa - who look destined to be cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table come the summer.

Today was particularly poor. Villa's defending was woeful throughout and they were punished by The Black Cats - who picked up a much needed win.

It was all too much for some Villa fans, including Paul McGrath.

Paul McGrath was a Republic of Ireland defender who played the early part of his career with Manchester United.

But he is best known for his seven year stint with Aston Villa after switching Old Trafford for Villa Park in 1989.

The club legend was devastated with the performance and then put out an impassioned plea on his Twitter account:

The ownership of the club has come under scrutiny recently. The way players are bought at the club has not been wholly appreciated among the fans and the appointment of Remi Garde did not go down well.

Many a Villa fan wants to see Randy Lerner and Tom Fox at the club and it seems that McGrath would also like to see a change at Villa Park.
