Though the Toffees may not be hitting the heights they would have liked to, they do boast the Premier League's joint top scorer in Romelu Lukaku, someone who will have been seen closely by the defenders during their international games.
Alderweireld listed his qualities in an interview with the official Tottenham website, saying: "He’s been in great form all season so it’s going to be a tough game, I know him very well, he’s very strong, very quick, everybody knows how he plays, he’s very clinical in front of goal so it’s going to be a tough game for us."
Vertonghen has suggested that Lukaku is the kind of forward that will punish any momentary lapse in concentration given the rich vein of form he currently finds himself in.
"He loves scoring goals and he’ll do everything to score goals right until the last minute. If they are 3-0 up or 3-0 down, he will go for goal time and time again. We will have to be focused, all 11 of us, to stop him."
Everyone has been aware of the talent that Lukaku possesses from his previous two seasons at Everton, and his spell at West Bromwich Albion prior to that. He's a quick, powerful striker who has been a constant threat, but this season his game seems to have gone up a level and he's found that consistency which makes him all the more deadly in front of goal.
As a result, he could be the man to derail Tottenham's good season if they aren't at their best, while the Toffees are looking to turn things around in 2016 after dropping so many points from winning positions in the first half of the season.
It is one of the more difficult fixtures remaining for Spurs as Goodison Park has seen many of the top teams beaten there in years gone by.
