ESPN pundit explains why he prefers Odion Ighalo to Romelu Lukaku

Steve Nicol is a fan of Watford striker Odion Ighalo, but not of Everton star Romelu Lukaku.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol said on the ESPN FC show on BT Sport/ESPN on Saturday morning (December 26) that he prefers Odion Ighalo to Romelu Lukaku.

Ighalo is playing for Watford at the moment, while Lukaku is currently on the books of Premier League rivals Everton.

“This guy (Ighalo) is an absolute nightmare to play against,” said former Liverpool defender Nicol. “His touch is way better than Lukaku’s.

“When the ball comes to Ighalo, it sticks every time,” added the former Scotland international. “When it comes to Lukaku, it’s a toss of the coin, whether it’s going to stick or not.”

Ighalo scored 20 goals and created 38 chances in 35 Championship appearances for Watford last season.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international striker has scored 14 goals and created 18 chances in 19 Premier League games for the Hornets so far the campaign.

The former Udinese man has a pass accuracy of 74% and a shot accuracy of 59%, and has won six headers, 26 dribbles and 15 tackles.

Lukaku has scored 15 goals and created 27 chances in 19 Premier League appearances for Everton so far this season.

The 22-year-old Belgium international striker has a pass accuracy of 75% and a shot accuracy of 55%, and has won 38 headers, 27 dribbles and five tackles.
