ESPN pundit duo explain why Tottenham won’t win Premier League title

Paul Mariner and Craig Burley write off Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

Former Arsenal forward Paul Mariner and ex-Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley said on the ESPN FC show on BT Sport/ESPN on Tuesday evening (December 29) that Tottenham Hotspur will not win the Premier League title this season.

“I don’t think they are quite strong enough in depth,” said Burley.

“They can go a long way, but Craig’s right,” said Mariner. “(Mousa) Dembele went out today (against Watford on Monday), so he is a miss.

"Where are the goals going to come when Harry Kane does dry up a little bit or he gets injured?”

Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 35 points from 19 matches. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are just four points behind leaders and North London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs may not have been fancied by many Premier League observers at the start of the season, but they are very much in the running for the title.

Perhaps Tottenham do not have the depth in their squad like Arsenal and Manchester City do, but then again perhaps they may not need to.

Both the Gunners and the Citizens have dropped points that they should not have this campaign, while Spurs have been very consistent.

True, Tottenham could struggle if star striker Harry Kane picks up an injury, but he could just as well remain fit for the rest of the season.
