Danny Murphy says he would take Jordan Henderson over Eric Dier

The former Liverpool midfielder has been comparing the Anfield outfit with Tottenham Hotspur.

Pundit Danny Murphy says he would take Jordan Henderson over Eric Dier in a Liverpool-Tottenham combined XI, according to the Daily Mirror.

Indeed, Murphy believes only three of the Reds' current squad would make such a team but insisted skipper Henderson would be one of them - meaning Tottenham's Dier would lose out.

Murphy is quoted as telling talkSPORT by the Mirror: "Liverpool, they need a turnaround of players and the reason I say this is somebody asked me how many Liverpool players would get into Tottenham’s first XI.

"Here’s my quick answer to that - two, three maximum. And I can’t think of a year in my lifetime where I think that could have been said. And that’s a big turnaround.

"I personally would have Henderson instead of Dier, only just. I know Dier’s been brilliant."

It sounds like Murphy is being honest but not trying to put Tottenham or Dier down in any way. It's simply a matter of opinion - but is there evidence to support the pundit?

The case for Dier is very strong. If you are looking at a holding midfielder (as Murphy later goes on to explain), it's Dier every time. But, overall, the Liverpool captain has far more experience and could trump anyone when it comes to stamina and energy.

Going forward, Henderson has more goals in him and looks as though he would edge his Tottenham counterpart in the final third.

Would you pick Henderson in a Liverpool - Spurs XI or would you go for Dier?
