Transfers: Five players who could follow Marko Grujic to Liverpool in January 2016

Liverpool Car

A look at who Liverpool could sign in 2016.

Liverpool are nine points off the top of the Premier League table, and in with a chance of finishing in the top four.

The Reds are already close to signing Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade, The BBC have reported, although he could be loaned back to the Serbian side.

Here is a look at who could also follow Grujic by signing for Liverpool during the upcoming transfer window...

Neven Subotic

Liverpool's defensive situation is troublesome at present thanks to a succession of injuries. Only improved form from Dejan Lovren has helped them pick up points, but is this something they can rely on? Jurgen Klopp should take a look at his former Dortmund star Neven Subotic and push to sign the centre-back to ensure they do not fall off the pace.

Mats Hummels

Perhaps an even better option than Subotic, would be to try and tempt Mats Hummels away from Dortmund to Anfield. If there is one man who could do it, his former boss Jurgen Klopp would be able to do so. German international Hummels has had a few difficult moment this season in the Bundesliga, and could benefit from a new challenge.

Leroy Sane

Memories of Raheem Sterling would quickly fade even more into the distance if Liverpool could snap up Leroy Sane. The Schalke winger is already a German international, and is just 19-years-old. The Reds will not be the only side interested, but once again, the lure of working with Jurgen Klopp could give them an edge.

Steve Mandanda

Simon Mignolet's doubters can be somewhat quelled by the fact he has more clean sheets in 2015 than any other goalkeeper, but the Reds learned earlier this month that Adam Bogdan is not good enough as a back up. Marseille stopper and France international Steve Mandanda is available for transfer this month, with his deal set to expire in the summer, and he would be a smart and cheap addition for Liverpool to make.

Joel Matip

Another Schalke star, Joel Matip's contract is running down at the club and they would be sensible to cash in this transfer window. The 24-year-old Cameroon international is a far cheaper option than Subotic or Hummels, and The Mirror reported earlier this month that Liverpool hold an interest.
