Who could Manchester United target in 2016?
Louis van Gaal is a man under pressure at Manchester United, without a win in their last six Premier League games.
They are nine points off league leaders Arsenal, and Liverpool drawing level on points with them on points should only encourage the Red Devils to splash out in the transfer market.
Here are five players United could target in January...
Felipe Anderson at present looks like United's most likely January addition. The Sun report officials have flown to Italy to discuss a deal with the winger, who is valued at £35 million. Splashing out on a Brazilian prospect called Anderson, what could possibly go wrong?
It is more than a decade since Manchester United first tried to sign Arjen Robben, and were beaten to his signature by Chelsea. The Dutchman has struggled with injury at Bayern Munich this season, but when he has played he has made an impact, scoring five times. Louis van Gaal knows him well, managing him with Bayern and Holland, and the German side already have a replacement in Douglas Costa.
Gareth Bale may be unattainable, but how about United make a move for another Real Madrid star? World Cup sensation James Rodriguez has struggled under Rafa Benitez this season, and United are long term admirers. This would be a deal which would make Europe sit up and take notice of the Red Devils, and even rescue their top four ambitions.
Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez has scored a stunning 14 goals this season, and is a contender to win player of the year. Managing to lure him away from the Foxes mid-season is a tall order, but United have the financial power to offer Leicester a deal they cannot refuse, even for Mahrez.
All these attacking players will help, but what about a top class centre-back? Mats Hummels is one of the best in Europe, but he has struggled at times for Borussia Dortmund this season. Managing to lure him to Old Trafford would also be shot at Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, who signed him for the German side.
