The Gunners finished 2015 with a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth, cementing their pace at the top of the table following Leicester City’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Tuesday night.
Only goal difference separates Arsenal and Leicester, while City remain three points behind and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur a further point back in a tight race at the top.
Speaking to reporters for the Mirror, Cech feels his side are well positioned heading in to the New Year and believes Arsenal have the capabilities to finish top of the pile come the end of the season.
“I believe this team has the qualities to win games and hopefully we will manage to go all the way in the league. It’s a very difficult and long run but I believe this team has the capabilities of doing it,” he said.
“We are in a good position, we are in the mix of the teams who will play to win the title so we want to stay in that position for as long as possible.”
“The league is very interesting this year because the table keeps changing every other week. But as long as we are there in March and are in a position where we can win the league then it’s fine as it will only depend on us.”
Arsenal open 2016 with a home encounter with struggling Newcastle United, a game boss Arsene Wenger will be targeting all three points ahead of the mini-break and ensuing FA Cup third round ties.
The Gunners have a number of interesting games in the second half of season, with trips to Everton, Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and West Ham United among them.
Some could argue that they should be further clear at this point, though injuries have evidently hindered them at times with Alexis Sanchez, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla among the notable absentees.
