Sunderland slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Liverpool to end an awful month in which they lost all momentum under new boss Sam Allardyce.
They remain in 19th position in the Premier League, seven points adrift of safety, with bottom side Aston Villa up next.
There was barely a Sunderland player who could be satisfied with their performance, and substitute Jeremain Lens was one who disappointed.
The focus is on Lens after his recent declaration at his unhappiness at the club, despite only signing in the summer. The £13 million signing was quoted in The Guardian claiming he was 'annoyed' at sitting on the bench, and would consider quitting the club in the January transfer window.
Lens was a substitute again for the fixture, but got half an hour to show what he can do after the came on for Adam Johnson.
He touched the ball 24 times, but failed to have a shot at goal or create a chance, with his most noteworthy contribution being that he got booked.
Fans already impatient at his poor displays and lack of resolve to dig in at the club were far from impressed, and tore him to shreds on social media with their reaction to his performance. Here is a look at what fans said on Twitter...
Feel abit for Lens tonight. Could see he was trying but probably too hard as everything went wrong for him but better attitude shown #SAFC— Kiel Tulloch (@KielTulloch) December 30, 2015
Full backs can't cross, set pieces shocking, and Lens is a waste of oxygen. Apart from that, it wasn't too bad. #safc— Stephen (@TheSpeggy) December 30, 2015
Thought our chances went when Lens came on. Absolutely useless. Sooner he leaves the better #safc— Reece Hanson (@RGHanson93) December 30, 2015
Lens isn't fit for the prem, can't even beat the first man #safc— Twiggy (@Twiggysafc2) December 30, 2015
Got to sell Lens in January. Only sellable asset and he's garbage. Lazy sack less #safc— Michael (@MichaelStelling) December 30, 2015
Jermain Lens, worst footballplayer in a #SAFC shirt ever???— Patrik Jonsson (@pajo71) December 30, 2015
