The Portuguese is hopeful for a top 2016 with Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday have recently picked up some decent results in their push for the playoffs. They picked up back-to-back wins v Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City before going down 1-0 losers to Middlesbrough last night.
That in itself is nothing to be ashamed of. Boro go into the New Year at the top of the Championship table - with a game in hand over nearest rivals Derby, Hull and Brighton.
Wednesday meanwhile go into 2016 full of hope regarding a potential play-off spot. The Owls are on 36 points, as are Brentford and Birmingham City, just four points outside the top six.
So there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful for Wednesday players, fans and staff - including coach Carlos Carvalhal.
He sent this New Year message to fans on Twitter earlier today:
I wish a fantastic new year, special to SWFC fans. In 6 round we was in 19 place will start 2016 in 7... WAWAW pic.twitter.com/UbPEitfeMf— carlos carvalhal (@carloscarvalha2) December 30, 2015
This time last year Carvalhal was not working in the game and is now hoping to lead Wednesday to the play-off spots in the Championship this season, and is hoping to do by playing with his own unique style.
Competition for the top six is fierce but if anybody looks like sneaking in the back door, there are not many better equipped then Carvalhal's Owls.
