Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Paul Walsh said on the Gillette Soccer Special show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday afternoon (December 28) that he was impressed with Tom Carroll when he was on loan at Queens Park Rangers.
Carroll played on loan at QPR from London rivals Tottenham during the 2013-14 season.
Walsh, who also featured on loan for Rangers from Spurs during his playing career, seems to rate the 23-year-old midfielder highly, but he has admitted that he was not sure about his English compatriot’s best position.
“I watched this lad plenty of times when he was at QPR,” said Walsh about Carroll on the Gillette Soccer Special show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday afternoon (December 28).
“He has been at other teams as well. I always thought that he was a good footballer. I wasn’t sure what his best position was because he played anchor midfielder, now he is maybe playing further up the pitch.”
Carroll has been on the books of Tottenham since 2008, but he has yet to establish himself in the first team.
The former England Under-21 international has been out on loan at four different clubs, including QPR and Swansea City.
The midfielder created 31 chances in 26 Championship appearances for Rangers during the 2013-14 season.
Carroll had a pass accuracy of 84% and a shot accuracy of 43%, and won 13 headers, 11 dribbles and 49 tackles.
During his loan spell at Swansea last season, the 23-year-old created five chances in 13 Premier League appearances.
So far this campaign, Carroll has scored one goal and created three chances in nine Premier League games for Tottenham.
