King is one of the greatest players to have ever played for Spurs and featured for the North London outfit his entire career. The former England international struggled with injuries, but when fit he was superb.
Former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp played with King, and he seems to believe that Alderweireld is in the same league as him.
“Tottenham might just have found a new heir to the throne,” the Englishman has written in The Daily Mail. “I played with Ledley King at Spurs and he was a magnificent defender.
“It’s no wonder all of his managers tried to squeeze every minute they could out of him. But Toby Alderweireld has to be the best Tottenham have had since the King.”
Alderweireld joined Tottenham from Spanish club Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old, who can play as a central defender or as a right-back, played on loan for Southampton last season.
The Belgium international has been superb for Spurs so far this campaign and is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League at the moment.
Alderweireld has scored two goals and created two chances in 19 league games so far this season. The former Ajax star has a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 58%, and has won 23 headers, two dribbles and 11 tackles.
