Belgian international striker Christian Benteke scored the only goal of the game as Liverpool earned a narrow victory over Sunderland.
The Reds played well in the win and were worth the three points, and the advantage could have been more had they not been so wasteful - with match winner Benteke guilty of missing a big one on one opportunity.
The forward sent a message to supporters, via Twitter, after the game expressing his satisfaction at helping his side earn a victory.
Benteke now has 17 Premier League goals for Aston Villa and Liverpool across 2015, just two less than Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero have for their respective clubs.
It is not a spectacular figure, but it is a solid one upon which to build in 2016, and if he can continue to score important goals then he will prove himself a very worthy addition to the Liverpool side, as he is yet to convince fans who are just two years removed from the sensational displays of Luis Suarez.
Benteke had three shots during the win, two of which were on target, scoring once, and impressively he managed to create three goalscoring chances for his teammates - with Coutinho managing six shots but only testing the goalkeeper once.
Liverpool are now up to seventh place, level on points with Manchester United, narrowly trailing on goal difference.
