Arsene Wenger has praised Gabriel's recent contribution.
Who says January transfer additions do not work out?
Arsenal have been reluctant to move mid-season in recent years, but their most recent winter transfer window signing has proven to be a big hit.
Almost 12 months ago Arsenal signed Gabriel Paulista from La Liga side Villarreal, to strengthen at centre-back.
Gabriel has played well for the Gunners when called upon this season, and scored a vital opener against Bournemouth in his most recent encounter.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reluctant to commit to making him a regular starter in place of either Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny, but is more than happy for him to fill in when required, and believes the Brazilian is happy at the club.
He told Arsenal's official website: "He is ready. I played him in a few games since the start of the season. I play him in training with Koscielny, with Mertesacker, we have three central defenders [and] that will be needed, but how I rotate them I haven't decided yet.
"I trust him completely. He wants to play more, of course. I think as well that he is happy here and I'm sure before the end of the season he will play more games."
Gabriel was excellent early in the season against both Liverpool and Newcastle, and as the Gunners push to win trophies and take on Barcelona in Europe, Wenger is right that the defender could have an important role to play.
