Watford ace Troy Deeney slams behaviour of Tottenham players in narrow win

Troy Deeney was unhappy with Tottenham Hotspur's players.

Watford striker Troy Deeney has criticised the behaviour of Tottenham Hotspur players during their recent Premier League clash.

Deeney told The Telegraph he believed Spurs unduly put pressure on referee Anthony Taylor to send off Nathan Ake after a mistimed challenge on Erik Lamela.

The red card helped tip the game in the visitor's favour, scoring a late winner through Heung-Min Son.

Deeney said: "The thing that frustrated me was 10 people running around the referee screaming for him to be sent off.

“Apparently we’re “little Watford” and you’re supposed to be running all over us, so why do you need a man sent off?”

Watford have defied expectations this year and currently sit in eighth position in the Premier League, with just one point less than Manchester United.

Tottenham are in fourth, just four points off the top of the division, and have only lost twice this season in the league.

Watching opposition players surround referees to clamour for a decision is always frustrating for those on the other side of it to watch, but it is up to the officials to police.

They must show they are not affected by such incidents in their decision making, but also step in to have a word with managers if their players over step the mark.
