Steve McClaren pleased with Newcastle United's attitude and character

Newcastle United have fallen back into the relegation zone.

Steve McClaren has insisted to the Chronicle that he has been pleased with the attitude and character of his Newcastle United squad in recent fixtures.

Newcastle have fallen back into the relegation zone after failing to win either of their last two outings.

However, McClaren is not unduly worried by his side’s current position, and he feels that a change of luck will see them start to climb the Premier League table.

“We have to continue with the attitude and character we are showing at the present moment,” McClaren said.

“You are just hoping that fortune will turn around. If we keep working as hard as we have done over recent games that will turn around.

“I’ve no doubt about that. There’s enough ability and quality in there. So onward we go.”

Newcastle fell back into trouble after failing to beat Aston Villa at St. James’ Park, and their most recent outing ended up in a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion.

The Magpies are still within touching distance of safety, but they need to start putting a run of wins together.

At the moment McClaren’s men are two points behind 17th placed Swansea City.

Newcastle’s next match comes against top of the table Arsenal on January 2nd, and the pressure is on them to cause an upset at the Emirates Stadium.
