Romelu Lukaku says a top four place is still the aim for Everton

Everton are currently nine points away from the Champions League qualification spaces.

Romelu Lukaku has insisted to Everton’s official site that the Toffees still have hopes of breaking into the Champions League qualification spaces this season.

Everton are currently in 11th place in the Premier League table, and they are nine points behind the top four.

However, Lukaku is still optimistic for the season ahead - and he believes that his side can make it into Europe.

“We want to get in the top six; the top four would be perfect,” the Belgian striker insisted. “We know we need to win more games and be more consistent in our performances.”

Going forward Everton have been one of the most dangerous teams in the Premier League this term, with Lukaku scoring goals on a regular basis.

The 22-year-old has netted 18 goals in 23 matches, but his form in front of goal has not been able to help Everton meet expectations.

Roberto Martinez’s side have conceded far too frequently to be successful, and they lost their last match 4-3 against Stoke City.

Everton are still only four points back from the top six though, and with some defensive improvements they will feel confident of climbing up the Premier League table.
