Everton are reportedly pursuing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordtveit.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordtveit, who can sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

The Toffees are somewhat underachieving this season, and have won just one of the last six games, with some murmurings of discontent towards manager Roberto Martinez.

Everton sit nine points adrift of the top four despite impressive displays from the likes of John Stones, Ross Barkley, Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku this season, and Spanish boss Martinez may need January reinforcements to hel protect his often fragile back four.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Everton are lining up a move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Havard Nordtveit, who can play at centre back or in holding midfield.

The Norwegian international, 25, joined Premier League gians Arsenal from Haugesund back in 2007, but left for Gladbach in January 2011 without even making an appearance for the Gunners.

Since then, Nordtveit has become a star in the Bundesliga, racking up over 150 appearances and impressing for the German side; but a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.

The Daily Mail believe that Everton are keen on signing Nordtveit, who is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning that he can sign for free on a pre-contract agreement in January.

Martinez may be hoping for an instant impact rather than a player for next season, but the option of attempting a cut-price deal with Monchengladbach may still be open, given that they may not want to see him leave for nothing next summer.
