According to the Daily Mail, Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny will undergo a medical in Paris today ahead of his move to join Arsenal in January.
The Gunners have suffered a number of blows in midfield this season, with Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla both being ruled out with long-term injuries, whilst Jack Wilshere continues to struggle with his own injury problems.
With Mathieu Flamini out of contract at the end of the season and Mikel Arteta seemingly edging towards retirement, it's clear that manager Arsene Wenger has to bring in a new midfielder in January.
Many fans have wanted to see Arsenal bring a top midfielder in to the club, but Wenger is instead looking to bring in a lesser-known player once again.
The Daily Mail report that Arsenal have agreed a £7.4m deal with Basel for the signature of Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny, and the transfer will move ever closer today.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined Basel from Mokawloon in 2013, has impressed in Switzerland, and now looks set to make the move from Basel to London - just as Mohamed Salah did when he signed for Chelsea two years ago.
It's stated that Elneny will today undergo a medical in Paris ahead of his move to the Emirates Stadium, with the deal seemingly set to go through virtually as soon as the January transfer window opens.
Whether Arsenal make any more moves remains to be seen, but Wenger is moving quickly to land Elneny, with a medical taking the move one step closer to completion.
Will Elneny be a good signing for Arsenal?
