Newcastle player Jack Colback's 94% completion rate: But only six passes forward

Midfielder Jack Colback is struggling to win over Newcastle fans with his recent performances.

Newcastle United have let their impressive start to December slip, and are now without a win in three games.

The 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion was particularly disappointing as the performance lacked the intensity the side displayed in wins over Liverpool and Tottenham.

Having gone into the game knowing a win would draw them level with the Baggies on points, Steve McClaren's side are now six points behind them, and stuck in the relegation zone.

Newcastle's midfield lacked creativity, with McClaren deciding to partner Jack Colback in midfield with Vernon Anita, who was replaced early on with Cheik Tiote.

Colback was signed on a free transfer from Sunderland a season and a half ago, and has struggled to make a positive difference for a team often in disarray.

Against West Brom he managed to complete 94 per cent of his passes - but only six of the 31 he made came in the final third.

Just six passes he made went in a forward direction, illustrating his lack of creativity, for his part a contribution in Newcastle's lack of goals.

They managed only two shots on target in the defeat, from seven total efforts at goal.

Colback was not the only under performer for Newcastle, but he was one of those to receive plenty of stick from fans on social media after the game, and needs to start offering more to be worth is place in the side.
