Leeds drew the game 1-1 but the defending for the first goal was atrocious.
Leeds United took on Nottingham Forest in an excellent Championship encounter at the City Ground this afternoon.
The two clubs went into the game in top form and in the end shared the spoils from an entertaining affair.
It was man of the moment Sam Byram who did the trick for Leeds. He smashed in a late equaliser to earn Leeds a draw which looked like being a defeat for a long period of time.
It would have been a bitter pill to swallow, considering the standard of the goal they conceded.
Leeds went 1-0 down when Nelson Oliveira continued to enhance his reputation at the City Ground with a first-half strike against the run of play.
It came after a truly awful piece of defending from Leeds. Matt Mills jogged out of defence and chipped a long ball behind Giuseppe Bellusci, who along with the rest of the Leeds defence was inexplicably playing a high-line inside the opponents half.
Marco Silvestri was also caught in no mans land as Oliveira kept his effervescent cool to slot Forest ahead.
It was ugly defending from a Leeds side who have been so tight at the back this month and former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was not amused. He said this on the BBC Leeds coverage of the game:
"I still can’t believe we’re losing this game 1-0.
"They don’t deserve to be in front but when you can't defend and you defend so poorly, that's what happens.
"We keep talking about these mistakes and lack of communication and its not been there for a while, but it is still within the team.
"It was kamikaze defending."
Bellusci did not have his best of games in the heart of the Leeds defence and it might be that club captain Sol Bamba could find his way back into the first-team for the Derby County game on Tuesday night.
