The 26-year-old midfielder disappointed plenty of Newcastle fans following their 1-0 Boxing Day loss to Everton.
Newcastle United fans were left understandably disappointed on Boxing Day after Everton's 1-0 win at St James' Park.
Many felt the Magpies were unlucky, while some Everton supporters thought they should have won by more. Either way, though, the fact the Toffees delivered such a late blow to the hosts made sure their win came in the most heartbreaking of circumstances.
Newcastle's three-game unbeaten run is now at an end and it seems Steve McClaren just can't motivate his players when they aren't massive underdogs.
And something else some fans aren't happy with when it comes to McClaren is his choice of central midfielders. Indeed, the Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita partnership just isn't good enough in the eyes of many on Tyneside.
Going forward, Colback and Anita don't seem to commit - but they don't press hard enough in defence either. That's why plenty of Newcastle supporters have expressed their frustration with the partnership on Twitter. And, of the two, it's Colback fans want dropped.
Indeed, here's how Magpies supporters reacted on social media to the 26-year-old's performance against Everton...
Anita and Colback aren't good enough. There's no two ways about it. Unless we address the CM position in January we're going down. #NUFC— David O'Neill (@DavieONeill) December 27, 2015
We need a CM that isn't scared to run at people. Colback and Anita are the biggest bottle jobs I've seen, scared to go forwards #nufc— Josh Gordon (@JoshGordon8) December 27, 2015
#nufc colback as a player seems 2 have gone backwards compared 2 last season specially goin forward. Shadow of the player who scored 5 goals— bobby martins (@bobbyonwestside) December 27, 2015
Anita and Colback weren't pressing when they were defending and weren't supporting when attacking. What's the point in them then?! #nufc— James Harrison (@mrbeast06) December 27, 2015
The Colback-Anita partnership has to stop now. Can't play with 2 CDM. So negative. #nufc— Jack Booth (@jackbooth12) December 26, 2015
