Everton returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday evening.
Tom Cleverley’s goal in the final seconds of the game proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Former Newcastle striker Owen was impressed with Everton’s display and gave his verdict on the final result on Sportlobster.com.
“Enjoyed that,” the former England international wrote. “Impressed with Everton. They were the better team in general play but Newcastle arguably had the best chance.”
Owen was co-commentating on the match for BT Sport 1 and said about Everton defender John Stones on 67 minutes: “I think he is one of the only defenders I would actually pay to watch. I think he is absolutely brilliant.”
Stones played for the entire 90 minutes against Newcastle and had a good game.
The 21-year-old England international central defender had a pass accuracy of 94%, attempted one dribble, won 50% of his tackles and 100% of his headers, and made two interceptions, four clearances and one block.
Everton are ninth in the Premier League table at the moment with 26 points from 18 matches, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
