Massive boost for West Ham as David Gold reveals huge injury news on Twitter

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic is set for a massive boost on the injury front ahead of today's game against Southampton according to David Gold.

The Hammers entertain Ronald Koeman's side off the back of five consecutive draws while the Saints have their tails up after a 4-0 mauling of Arsenal.

Slaven Bilic's side have slipped down to eighth in the Premier League after a run of eight games without a win.

In that time the East Londoners have only scored four goals.

It is a far cry from the club's electric start to the season which saw them boast the best away record in the Premier League with wins at Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

They also beat Chelsea and were the joint top scorers in the division until they hit a sticky patch which has coincided with a horrendous spate of injuries to six of their key players.

West Ham were becoming one of the most feared sides in the top flight, but their star has faded somewhat in recent weeks.

The East Londoners have performed admirably in hugely testing circumstances, though, after suffering a glut of injuries to key players with no fewer than six first team stars ruled out for the last month and a half.

Trio set for return?

But according to Hammers co-owner Gold there could be a late Christmas present for Hammers boss Bilic and the club's fans today with no fewer than three first team stars set to return from the treatment room in the shape of playmaker Manuel Lanzini, striker Andy Carroll and defender James Tomkins.

Lanzini was ruled out until the new year last month in what was a major blow to the Hammers' attacking play, particularly with their star man Dimitri Payet also out until the new year.

Carroll hurt his groin and has missed the last two games and Tomkins had to be substituted after a clash of heads left his eye looking more like that of a boxer against Villa.

But according to Gold all three could face the Saints later today.

Speaking on social networking site Twitter, the co-owner said: "I'm hopeful that Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and James Tomkins will be available for the Southampton game."

While Payet, Aaron Cresswell, Victor Moses, Diafra Sakho and Winston Reid are all out, the return of the trio should help the Hammers rediscover some of the attacking verve which made them such a threat earlier in the season.

Tomkins had revealed the extent of his eye injury by posting a picture on Twitter after the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
