Middlesbrough will face Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside Stadium in the Championship on Monday evening.

Former Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has predicted on Skysports.com that Sheffield Wednesday will win against Middlesbrough on Monday evening.

Middlesbrough will take on Wednesday at the Riverside Stadium in the Championship.

Predicting the Owls to register a 2-1 victory, Holloway wrote on Skysports.com: “Middlesbrough will be under huge pressure from their own fans to win this game. This is a serious challenge for them.

"It's tough to be the top dog and to keep on winning. It's a big burden to carry. Plus, Boro had their game cancelled on Boxing Day, which I don't think actually helps them.”

Middlesbrough are second in the Championship table at the moment with 46 points from 22 matches.

Aitor Karanka’s side are just a point behind leaders Derby County and also have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Wednesday currently find themselves seventh in the standings with 36 points from 23 matches. The Owls are only a point behind sixth-placed Ipswich Town and are pushing for the playoffs.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side will head into the encounter against Middlesbrough on the back of a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Wednesday’s only win in nine at Middlesbrough came in this exact fixture last season, edging it 3-2.

Meanwhile, Boro ended a run of five without victory against the Owls by defeating them 3-1 in August.
