Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has told The Mirror that he was impressed with Dele Alli’s arrogance when he first saw him at Milton Keynes Dons.
Alli started his professional career at MK Dons and earned the move to Premier League outfit Tottenham in February 2015.
The 19-year-old midfielder remained at The Dons on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2014-15 season and helped them get promoted to the Championship.
The youngster has established himself in the first team at Spurs since the start of the 2015-16 campaign and is arguably the best teenage footballer in the Premier League at the moment.
Former Tottenham midfielder Hoddle has revealed that he always knew that Alli was special.
“From when I first saw him, I could see he has a bit of arrogance about him,” the former England international told The Mirror.
“He has belief, which is great. He loves to be in the penalty box and for me that is his best position, in an attacking role.”
Hoddle, though, has noticed a flaw in Alli’s game.
“He sometimes gets involved when he shouldn’t get involved,” explained the former Chelsea midfielder. “If I was playing against him, I would get him at it.
“If you were the manager against him, you would say, ‘Wind him up – you can get him sent off’. But he will learn about that.”
In 16 Premier League appearances so far this season, Alli has scored four goals and created 19 chances.
The England international has a pass accuracy of 76% and a shot accuracy of 67%, and has won 14 headers, 13 dribbles and 28 tackles.
