Ronald Koeman’s response when asked if Arsenal will win Premier League title

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman does not back Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season despite their victory over Manchester City on Monday.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has told The Sun that he does not expect Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal are second in the league table at the moment with 36 points from 17 matches. The Gunners are just two points behind leaders Leicester City and four points clear of third-placed Manchester City.

Arsene Wenger’s side are in good form at the moment and got the better of City 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium in North London on Monday night.

Arsenal will take on Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the league on Boxing Day.

Saints boss Koeman seems to appreciate the Gunners, but he does not expect them to win the league title in May.

Asked if he expected Arsenal to be celebrating come May, the Dutchman told The Sun: “No. I think there are more teams up there. It’s still not halfway through the season.

“But they are looking stronger than last year. It’s more difficult to win against Arsenal than it was last year. In my opinion they are more of a counter team than they were before.

“They were dominated by City but the best chances were for Arsenal because one of their biggest threats of the team is the fast transition to attack because they have good movements and fast players.”

Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since 2004, but they have a great chance of doing so this season.

With Manchester United falling behind in recent weeks, the Gunners’ main challengers are now Leicester and City.

It remains to be seen how the Foxes do over the festive period and in the coming weeks, which means that the Citizens could be Arsenal’s major threat to winning the league title this campaign.
