Leicester went down 1-0 to the Reds at Anfield in the Premier League earlier today. Christian Benteke’s goal in the 63rd minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Former Leicester striker Lineker was following the game, and this was his reaction to the final result:
Huge shock on the cards at Anfield as Benteke gives Liverpool the lead against Leicester.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) December 26, 2015
Leicester have lost at Liverpool. Ranieri out!— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) December 26, 2015
Lineker was, of course, joking about sacking Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, but many Premier League observers will have been surprised that Foxes failed to pick up a point at Anfield.
Leicester have been the story of the season so far this season and are in the running for a top-four finish. A win for the Foxes against Liverpool at Anfield will not have come as a surprise at all.
Ranieri's side will take on Manchester City at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Tuesday evening, while Liverpool will face Sunderland away from home at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday.
