Benteke praises Liverpool character after win over Leicester City

The Belgian scored the winning goal of the afternoon.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Christian Benteke praised Liverpool’s character following the win over Leicester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

The Reds were 1-0 winners against the league leaders on Saturday afternoon, with Benteke scoring the only goal of the game to secure all three points.

It was a big win for Jurgen Klopp’s side after their struggles in recent weeks, with them comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Watford last time out..

The win over the in-form Foxes was a big one for them then, and Benteke has praised their character to secure the victory that moves them within five points of the top four.

"We deserved to get the three points,” he told BBC Sport. "The last few weeks were hard for us. We didn't get the results we wanted but today we showed great character.

"We have to keep going and work hard. This league this year is really strong and we have to work hard to reach our goal."

Benteke will now be hoping that he can get himself among the goals for the Merseyside outfit after bagging the winner this weekend.

The Belgium international striker has been more than disappointing since joining from Aston Villa in the summer, with many believing he does not fit in with the Reds system and could be set for a sale.

With Liverpool struggling for goals, and Daniel Sturridge struggling for fitness, though, he has a big chance to impress in the side and will be hoping that Saturday’s goal can be the launch pad for him.
