Pundit Paul Merson has hailed Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino on Sky Sports, whilst his colleague Matt Le Tissier has – begrudgingly – raved about their signing of Toby Alderweireld.
Tottenham head in to the busy Christmas period sitting fourth in the Premier League table, with just two defeats to their name so far after an outstanding first half of the campaign.
With games against Norwich City, Watford and Everton to come over the Christmas period, Tottenham have a real chance to set themselves up strongly for the second half of the season, with Champions League qualification well within their grasp.
Now, a host of Sky Sports pundits have been asked to give their manager of the season so far nominations, and ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson has put Pochettino forward as a valid candidate.
“I do like Pochettino,” said Merson. “I think he's done a great job at Tottenham. It's a young team, there's a lot of young players playing, and I think they've been outstanding,” he added.
When asked about who the signing of the season has been so far, one Tottenham star was mentioned; Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian centre back joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid over the summer, having enjoyed an outstanding loan spell with Premier League rivals Southampton last term.
Now back alongside his former Ajax and current Belgium international team-mate Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld has been one of the best centre backs in the Premier League this season, playing a key role in Tottenham's mean defence.
Alderweireld has now been praised for his performances, with Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier telling Sky Sports that he has been one of the signings of the season – despite him leaving his beloved Saints.
“Toby's been very, very good,” said Le Tissier. “We know what a decent player he was, and for Spurs, it's a very, very good bit of business to nick him away from us,” he added.
