What did Merson say was 'Tottenham all over', before predicting Norwich result?

Spurs Santa

Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur will beat Norwich.

Tottenham have suffered so many near misses with success over the past few years that supporters have often used the phrase 'Spursy' to describe their often heartbreaking fortunes.

This season they have shown signs that they are a stronger side, and may have a new found resilience.

They way they bounced back from a recent loss to Newcastle to win their following match has SkySports pundit Paul Merson referring to their more steely nature as the new version of typical Spurs.

He is backing them to beat Norwich City in their Boxing Day fixture, predicting a 3-1 victory.

He said: "That win over Southampton after losing to Newcastle was Tottenham all over. They get to a certain point and then drop off, but fair play to them, they bounced back really quickly against the Saints. That was a big result.

"Now they need to consolidate their position in the top four by winning against Norwich. If they do that, then I think they will really go on from there.

"Norwich had a massive result at Old Trafford, and they may feel like they've got the game-plan for results away from home now, but I don't think Tottenham will play as badly as United did."

Merson began the season frequently picking against Spurs in his weekly predictions column but after being especially badly burnt by their 4-1 win over Manchester City - which he tipped as a 'walk in the park' for Manuel Pellegrini's side - he has continued to pick in their favour.

Mauricio Pochettino has worked hard at pushing the Tottenham players to play in the pressing style he wants, making life difficult for the opposition, with extensive fitness work.

The hard work appears to have provided them with a new mindset - but all this adulation will begin to fade away into the old 'Spursy' nature if they find a way to lose to Norwich at White Hart Lane.
