Could Tottenham Hotspur give the young striker a place on the bench over Christmas?

While Tottenham Hotspur’s senior stars were preparing for their Boxing Day clash with Norwich City, their under-21s were taking on their counterparts from FC Porto in the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday afternoon.

Tottenham ran out 4-0 winners and while Anton Walkes and Emmanuel Sonupe both got on the score-sheet it was a brace from Shaq Coulthirst that generated most of the headlines, and when you consider Clinton N’Jie’s recent injury, those goals may have just opened a door for the youngster.

After all, Tottenham were already lacking in striking options before N’Jie was ruled out for up to three months (as reported by the BBC), and with the games coming thick and fast over the festive period, manager Mauricio Pochettino may just call on Coulthirst to add an excitement new element to his match-day squad.

The 21-year-old has played just once for Tottenham’s first-team to date and a string of brief loan spells have seen varying levels of success. But he is a regular scorer for the club’s under-21s and his latest brace may just have convinced Pochettino to take a risk if Spurs need more fire-power on the bench as they bid to maintain their place in the top four.

Only time will tell, but Coulthirst’s latest goal-scoring appearance certainly will not have done his hopes of a Tottenham breakthrough any harm at all.
