West Ham manager Slaven Bilic confirms Manuel Lanzini should return for Southampton match

The West Ham United midfielder is recovering well from a recent setback.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has been speaking ahead of his side’s Boxing Day clash with Aston Villa, with his comments later published on the Hammers’ official Twitter account.

Unsurprisingly, one of the topics of conversation was the likely return date for some of the many first-team stars currently side-lined through injury, and Bilic had good news regarding loanee Manuel Lanzini.

The exciting Argentine has missed the last three matches with a hamstring injury, and while he will not be ready to take on Villa at the weekend, he could be back for the very next match.

“Lanzini is progressing and will probably be available for the Southampton game,” the West Ham boss said. “It looks like it will be the same squad as it was against Swansea for Villa, but we should have one or two back for Southampton.”

That is great news for a West Ham side that has struggled in front of goal with so many attacking options ruled out.

Three consecutive 0-0 draws against Manchester United, Stoke City and Swansea City have dented West Ham’s impressive progress but they should soon have plenty more first-team players to call on heading into 2016.

Lanzini has scored five goals and provided two assists so far this season and West Ham fans can expect plenty more in the months ahead.
