Tottenham's Milos Veljkovic will be monitoring Liverpool's imminent Marko Grujic deal with interest

Tottenham's Milos Veljkovic will be keeping an eye on Serbian youth teammate Marko Grujic's move to Liverpool.

After a trophy winning summer, Milos Veljkovic's season at Tottenham Hotspur has been one to forget.

Previously considered as a breakthrough star, Mauricio Pochettino does not feel the same way, and he remains with the under-21 side.

In the summer Veljkovic was a regular starter in Serbia's team which won the under-20 World Cup, underlining his outstanding potential.

Able to play in central defence too, Veljkovic featured in central midfield as he did briefly on loan at Charlton last year before he got injured.

His midfield partner at the tournament was Marko Grujic, who is heading to the Premier League.

The Liverpool Echo report that Red Star Belgrade talent Grujic has agreed a five-year deal to sign with Liverpool, and will fly in to undergo a medical next week.

While he could head back on loan to Red Star for the remainder of the campaign, it is a real show of faith for Jurgen Klopp to make him his first signing.

Veljkovic has not made a single first team appearance for Spurs this season, nor even made the bench. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported in the summer he was interesting Leeds for a loan deal this season, but did not sanction a deal as they were unwilling to commit to making him a regular starter.

It was reported last month by The Metro that Veljkovic planned to quit Tottenham when his contract expires at the end of the season, to progress his career.

Bringing him to Anfield would be an intriguing possibility for Liverpool, to renew his partnership with Grujic, but realistically at this stage of their careers the pair would not receive opportunities to start regularly alongside each other, and Veljkovic could find himself in the same position at Tottenham.

Grujic's imminent transfer to Liverpool shows there is a market for a player like him among top teams, but it will also re-inforce to Veljkovic that he needs to go and play regularly to make his mark, before he can ascend to becoming the Premier League star he aspires to be.
