Francis Coquelin praises Flamini and Ramsey midfield partnership

The duo have been impressive for Arsenal in recent weeks.

Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has praised the burgeoning central midfield relationship between Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey to the club’s official website.

With Frenchman Coquelin out injured, as well as Santi Cazorla having picked up a long-term injury, Arsene Wenger has once again been forced to shuffle his side around.

That has seem Flamini step up in the defensive midfield role and Ramsey pulled back from a right wing role in a desired central midfield position.

It is something that has worked so far, with them looking impressive in the 2-1 win over Manchester City on Monday evening, and Coquelin has shared his praise.

“They have shown great stuff since the day they came into the team together in midfield,” he told

“You can see the results and we have had big wins like the game against Manchester City.”

“Aaron is a little bit more offensive. Mathieu was getting forward a bit more compared to what he did in the first games he played, but against Manchester City he showed a lot of discipline to play really well.”

While Ramsey has impressed in a central role alongside Flamini, it is unlikely he will start there once Wenger has a full compliment of players.

Cazorla and Coquelin are very much the first choice pairing in that position, with the Spaniard having proved his defensive capabilities since moving into centre midfield.

Until Ramsey can prove he is able to be as reliable defensively on a consistent basis, he is sure to find a central role hard to come by in future.
