According to the Chronicle, Wolverhampton Wanderers could have a deal wrapped up for Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson soon after the January transfer window opens.
Newcastle will not stand in the 32-year-old’s way, as they feel his chances of breaking into the team at St. James’ Park are slim.
Newcastle actually terminated Williamson’s loan at Molineux early as they wanted him back as cover. However, the rangy centre-back has not made played a match for the Magpies since being recalled.
Williamson’s return to Wolves would be good news for Kenny Jackett’s side, as their defence improved considerably while he was in the team.
Williamson’s experience helped Wolves tighten up, but since he has returned to Tyneside they have leaked goals.
Wolves have let in seven goals in their last two outings, and they are sitting in a disappointing 17th place in the Championship table at the moment heading into the Christmas and New Year period that could make or break their campaign.
