Onguene, 18, was born in Cameroon but has played for France at Under-16, 17, 18 and 19 levels, having been tipped for a bright future.
Now a regular first-team player for Sochaux, Onguene's performances are attracting interest - notably from two huge Premier League teams.
The Daily Mail report that both Arsenal and Newcastle have been impressed with Onguene, and are considering moves for the centre back.
At 6ft 3in, Onguene is something of a giant for his age, whilst his strength and athleticism have made him one of the top young defenders in French football.
The report states that, despite Onguene being so highly-rated, Sochaux may allow him to leave in a cut-price £2m deal, which is triggering the interest from Arsenal and Newcastle, as they sniff a potential bargain.
Arsenal have always been known for developing young players under Arsene Wenger, and he will certainly know the French market better than most, whilst Newcastle have also done plenty of their shopping in France recently too - and Onguene could the latest to add to the list for either side.
