Ian Harte has suggested to Sky Sports that his former Leeds United teammate Harry Kewell was as good as Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.
Kewell, who retired from professional football in 2014, started his club career at Leeds and played for the Whites until 2003.
The former Australia international, who primarily played as a winger, then moved to Liverpool and went on to play for Galatasaray among other clubs.
Giggs started his career at United and played for the Red Devils until the day he retired.
The former Wales international is widely regarded as the greatest left-winger in Premier League history, but former Leeds left-back Harte has suggested that Kewell was as good as him.
“Left-wing - my roommate when I was at Leeds,” Harte told Sky Sports while picking the best 11 players he played with in his career.
“One of, between himself and Ryan Giggs, I think probably the best left-winger that has probably played in England for a long, long time.
“It’s got to be someone like Harry Kewell. I got on very well with Harry and he was unstoppable on his day.”
Kewell was superb at Leeds, but his time at Liverpool was rather mixed. As for Giggs, he was very consistent and played at the highest level (the Premier League) for a much longer time.
There is no doubt that Kewell will go down in Premier League history as one of the best left-wingers, but Giggs has to be considered as the best.
